Terms of Use
Last updated: May 2026. By using Gridly you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
§ 1 — Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Gridly platform ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all users, including beta participants, registered account holders, and casual visitors.
§ 2 — Description of Service
Gridly is a web-based platform that generates crossword puzzles from uploaded textbook content for educational use. The Service includes content extraction, puzzle generation, puzzle editing, and export functionality. The Service is currently in open beta and is provided free of charge to educators.
§ 3 — Accounts
You may use certain features without an account. Creating an account requires a valid email address and accurate information about your educational role. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at contact@gridlyapp.org if you suspect unauthorized access.
§ 4 — Acceptable Use
You agree to use Gridly only for lawful educational purposes. You may not upload content you do not have the right to use, attempt to reverse-engineer the platform or its algorithms, use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the Service, redistribute the Service or resell access to it, or use the platform in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
§ 5 — Uploaded Content & Intellectual Property
You retain all intellectual property rights to content you upload. By uploading content, you grant Gridly a limited, temporary license to process that content solely for the purpose of generating your puzzles. This license terminates when the uploaded content is deleted from our servers (within 24 hours of processing). Generated puzzles are yours to use, distribute, and modify without restriction.
§ 6 — Platform Intellectual Property
The Gridly platform, including its design, code, algorithms, and branding, is the intellectual property of Gridly. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the platform itself. Your right to use the Service does not grant you ownership of any platform components.
§ 7 — Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any generated content, including crossword clues and answer keys. Beta features may change, break, or be removed without notice.
§ 8 — Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Gridly shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service (which, during the beta, is zero). This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability.
§ 9 — Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. You may delete your account by emailing contact@gridlyapp.org. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, use the Service in a way that harms other users or the platform, or if we discontinue the Service. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Saved puzzles will be deleted within 30 days of account closure.
§ 10 — Changes to Terms
We may modify these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users and posted on this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you disagree with updated terms, your remedy is to stop using the Service and delete your account.
§ 11 — Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Gridly operates. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the Service will be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes will be submitted to binding arbitration under applicable arbitration rules.
§ 12 — Contact
Questions about these terms should be directed to contact@gridlyapp.org.
